Happy Fall 2021! What just happened?? The months of summer came and went entirely too fast….if you ask us at BH-HQ ☹ But, with fall comes the reinstatement of routines, predictability of schedules, cooler and shorter days, fall sports….and Slow Cookers!
We sure hope you didn’t fall too far off-track with your health and fitness goals over the summer months, however if you did, this is a perfect time to get things back under control. With the holidays ahead, wouldn’t it feel excellent to go into them ahead of the game? Today is a great day to reset your metabolism, get your energy back, sleep more sound and just feel better overall. Let’s do this!
Spend just one minute each day to envision you, being confident, self-possessed, and in control of your own decisions as they relate to your health and wellness. Work on loving yourself, your body and your actions to live a more balanced and healthy life each day by creating a personal positive mantra than you can repeat over-n-over about why you deserve to live the life you want for yourself.

Balanced Habits™ Recipe of the Month
Zesty Black Bean Soup
Yields = About 6 Cups
INGREDIENTS
4 -15 oz. cans Black Beans, divided
2 Large Navel or Blood Oranges
1 1/2 tsp. Ground Cumin
👌 finger pinch Chili Powder
👌 finger pinch Smoked Paprika
1 medium Purple Onion, sliced 1/2” lengthwise
1 Green Bell Pepper, sliced 1/2” lengthwise
28 oz. can Crushed Tomatoes
28 oz. can Tomato Sauce
Avocado Oil Cooking Spray
1 small package Corn Tortillas, using only 4 of them, cut into thin strips
Queso Fresco Cheese or Freshly Grated Parmesan
DIRECTIONS
Pre heat oven to 300° F
STEP ONE
In a small mesh colander, rinse TWO cans of beans well. Puree the TWO remaining cans in a blender or with an Immersion Blender in a deep bowl.
STEP TWO
Peel oranges and add to bean puree. Blend well. Set aside.
STEP THREE
Spray a large, deep pot with oil; sauté onion and bell peppers 5 min. over med.-high heat until tender. Reduce heat to low.
STEP FOUR
Add HALF the blended contents to the pot. Pour the tomato sauce into the blender and puree with the bean/orange mixture. (You may have to do this in two batches so it doesn’t over-flow) Add to the pot.
STEP FIVE
Raise the heat to medium. Add crushed tomatoes, rinsed beans and seasoning. Mix well by hand. Cook uncovered 10 minutes.
