The summer months tend to be more relaxed and focused on time spent outdoors and enjoying great weather.  It’s also an opportunity to spend some quality time on your health and fitness with fewer demands on your time. While there are the same 24 hours each day, because of the longer hours of sunlight, getting your fitness in first thing in the morning, is a great P-L-A-N. Don’t leave your health and fitness up to chance. Planning to do something positive for your health and fitness on a daily basis will support the behavior and let others know that you are indeed dedicated to being healthy. You’ve got this!

Balanced Habits News

The Balanced Habits™ RV is hitting the road again this summer! So far we’ve traveled the entire state of California (where our headquarters is), all the states of the Pacific North West, and several states within the Mid-West.  For the majority of this month we’ll be traveling in and around the state of Michigan, checking in with clubs we work with in the state, as well as along our travels to and from. We love to connect with clubs that service the Balanced Habits™ nutrition programs and introducing ourselves to fitness clubs looking for a solution to better serve their community. We think everyone needs balanced habits in their life and spend our “free time” preaching why ☺  Maybe we’ll see you in person this summer!

Balanced Habits™ Recipe of the Month

Here is a fun bonus recipe to try!

Berry Good Yogurt Cake


1 cup Walnuts, finely chopped

1/4 cup Splenda Brown Sugar or 1/2 cup Light Brown Sugar

1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

1 cup No Added Sugar Applesauce

1/4 cup Splenda Sugar Blend or 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar

1/3 cup Unsalted Butter, softened

1 Whole + 2 Egg Whites

1 tsp. Vanilla Extract

1 1/2 cups 2x Sifted White Whole Wheat Flour

1 1/2 Tbsp. Corn Starch

1 tsp. Baking Powder

1/2 tsp. Salt

1/4 tsp. Baking Soda

1/2 cup Low-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt

1/2 cup Blueberries

1 cup Halved Strawberries

1 1/2 tsp. Flour


Pre heat oven to 350°F.

Line an 8 x 8” sq. pan with foil or parchment paper.
Spray with cooking oil. Set aside.


Combine walnuts, Splenda brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Sprinkle 1/3 of mixture over the bottom of the prepared baking pan.


Beat applesauce, Splenda Blend sugar and butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium for 2 minutes. Beat in whole egg and egg whites, one at a time. Beat in vanilla. Sift flour 2x over a medium bowl. Return to sifter. Add cornstarch, baking powder, salt and baking soda and sift into the same medium bowl. Alternately add flour mixture and yogurt into applesauce mixture bowl; beating until smooth.


Toss berries with 1 1/2 tsp. flour in a small bowl then gently fold into cake batter.


Pour half cake batter over walnut mixture in prepared pan.
Sprinkle with 1/3 of remaining walnut mixture; top with remaining 1/2 cake batter then final 1/3 walnut mixture.


Bake cake for 30 – 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the center of the pan comes out clean.
Cool cake completely on a wire rack. Cut into 16 pieces.

→ Refrigerate or freeze remaining cake.

  1. Cut back on coffee, tea or soda and drink more water.
  2. Eat something for breakfast every day.
  3. Stir fry a mixture of diced colorful veggies each week to add an antioxidant boost to your morning eggs!
  4. Wake up just five min. earlier than normal to stretch you entire body before anything else.
  5. Lay your exercise clothes out the night before in a place where you can’t avoid them.
  6. Give yourself a compliment each morning after brushing your teeth.
  7. Drink 8 oz. of room temperature water immediately upon waking.
