I happened upon an infomercial this morning regarding a super high powered popular blender.  Its claim to fame was that it pulverizes foods into SUPER foods, therefore, making the foods value increase ten-fold.  There were also testimonials from individuals who reduced their cholesterol, reduced symptoms of fibromyalgia, grew hair back faster after Chemotherapy and more… This company was attributing all these healing powers to their blender.  A blender made up of a blade with a plastic cup and a cord.

It frustrated me because it is not the blender that is healing these people and/or alleviating their symptoms of illnesses…it is the fresh foods that they are putting in the blender.  And the foods that are going in are fresh fruits, veggies, seeds, and nuts.  There is no magic here folks, just regular recommended foods that you’ve been told to eat repeatedly for years.

Why are they claiming this then?  Because it is a convenient tool.  I’m all for simple and quick.  If you need to drink your nutrition, do it!  I’d rather you do that than grab a donut.  I am not dismissing the benefits of juicing or even smoothies!  These are great modules for high-quality nutrition; if made balanced.  Juicing 3 apples, 1 banana, 3 peaches, 2 cups of spinach, and 16 strawberries will influx your system with tons of vitamins, but you are lacking protein and healthy sources of fats to sustain you as a meal.  All those fruits-n-veggies at once is carb/starch/fructose city.

You don’t see knife commercials claiming to save muscle mass by cutting up protein sources for you to ingest, or colander commercials claiming to provide you with optimal steamed vegetable nutrition to cure the world’s obesity epidemic.

All in all, I am just pointing out that balanced nutrition comes from food and incorporating all 3 macronutrients to provide you with energy and satiety.  It is you making the healthy choices, not the appliance making you better.

Whether you mush, blend, chop, mince, steam, toss, or julienne your food, make it fresh and healthy and have a great day!!
