One of the keys to losing body fat and keeping it off is strength training. Lean muscle is the driving force behind your metabolism. The only way to increase your metabolism and burn more calories at rest is to increase lean muscle through strength training.
Most people want to get lean and shed body fat. Doesn’t a high metabolism sound like something that might help you achieve that goal? You bet it does!
For the women that are afraid of “bulking up” from strength training, rest assured, that is simply a myth. (more…)
It’s no surprise but every year toward the end of January beginning of February, I start to see it. Social media and peoples posts take a turn, their posts seem to express frustration, tough decisions, indecision and general unhappiness. (more…)
Are you limited by your genes? I seriously doubt it. Out of the thousands of people we’ve worked with over the years, I can’t remember a single one who couldn’t improve their genetics. Carolyn is a perfect example of this. Her genetic makeup is significantly different than mine. She gains weight easily, has to work twice hard to gain muscle and has to constantly monitor her health markers to stay healthy. However, because she continually chooses to eat healthy, exercises like crazy and lives with vitality, she can control her weight, her energy and her health markers like cholesterol, glucose levels, blood pressure, insulin and other hormonal responses so that she can live and look the way she wants. Carolyn chooses not to be a victim of her genetics, but a leader by example.
I happened upon an infomercial this morning regarding a super high powered popular blender. Its claim to fame was that it pulverizes foods into SUPER foods, therefore, making the foods value increase ten-fold. There were also testimonials from individuals who reduced their cholesterol, reduced symptoms of fibromyalgia, grew hair back faster after Chemotherapy and more… This company was attributing all these healing powers to their blender. A blender made up of a blade with a plastic cup and a cord. (more…)

It’s that time of year again.
The time of year when people make New Year’s Resolutions.
Why are they so popular?
One reason is they give us hope. Hope that in the immediate future positive change will materialize in our lives.
As we head into this new year, millions of people across the globe will pledge to (among other things) drink less alcohol, exercise more, get a better job, save more money and, of course, lose weight (what some people call a “January diet.”) In fact, according to the Statistic Brain website, losing weight is the most popular New Year’s resolution. It’s that time of year again. Everyone is making New Year’s resolutions to accomplish one thing or another. The number one resolution always seems to be to get in shape and lose some weight. Why is it that we tend to wait for that one big day to take on this new lifestyle? That reminds me of one of our fitness client’s telling us that because it’s Halloween she just has to eat a few Tootsie Rolls. Aren’t Tootsie Rolls available year round? Isn’t that elusive new lifestyle of better health always there for the taking? It’s not so elusive after all. It’s available every day, you’ve just gotta want it. (more…)
Why you should ignore all the government warnings about exercise.
I want to communicate to you the truth about exercise. I want to explain why you need to ignore all of the government warnings about how much you should be moving. As MD Henry Lodge states in his powerful and provocative book, Younger Next Year, the government’s recommendation to exercise 2 or 4 days per week is only a bare minimum. A desperate plea from the medical profession to a nation of couch potatoes. (more…)
